Vicki Rutledge Marx

Vicki Rutledge Marx, 76, departed this life and received her heavenly reward on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, with family at her side. She was born in Forsyth County on April 12, 1949, to the late Charles Howard and Mamie Hayes Rutledge. Mrs. Marx is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Richard Marx; son, Jonathan Marx (Ashley); two grandchildren, Evelyn and Phillip; sister, Sharon Patterson (Randy); and one niece, Brooke Johnson (Charles) and their two children, Cullen and Bryce. Vicki was devoted to her family, whom she loved unreservedly and was much loved in return. She believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, integrity, hard work, and holding oneself and others to high standards. She enjoyed her dogs, bird watching, reading, and until arthritis limited her, gardening and arts and crafts. Much of her adult life was spent as a homemaker, with periods of employment as a Baptist Hospital lab technician and as the manager of a Hallmark store. She taught kindergarten Sunday School for decades until her knees would not let her continue. Her cooking and hospitality were legendary; she gladly opened her home on many occasions to all manner of guests. Facing the decline and dementia of her own parents, Vicki and her sister cared for them daily for years with unwavering faithfulness. Vicki always preferred doing the work to getting the credit. Her life was spent in faithful service of others. 

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on January 17 at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastors Will Toburen and Matt Willis officiating. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 134 S.
