Vickie Mabe Byrd

It is with great sadness we share that Vickie Mabe Byrd, age 73, passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at her home in Clemmons, NC.

Vickie was born in Winston-Salem, NC, the daughter of the late Floyd Carlton Mabe and Helen Sarah Landreth. She was born into a very loving family and grew up mostly in the Winston-Salem area. About 15 years ago, Vickie and her husband, Mike, settled into a beautiful home in Clemmons, NC.

Vickie was preceded in death earlier this year by her loving husband, Mike. Also, preceding Vicke in death was her dad, Floyd; stepfather, Charles; sister, Diane; along with her dear friend, Mercedes Cosgrove. Now, Vickie and Mercedes can debate together who had the perfect recipe for sourdough bread.

To know Vickie was to love and respect her. Vickie was a private person who cherished her close friendships. She touched the lives of many through her kindness, knowledge and genuine interest in others. She will be remembered for her remarkable career and mentorship to many in market research, and the keen analytical mind and dedication which set her apart from many in her field.

Vickie began her career at Hanes Hosiery in an entry-level role while earning her degree from High Point University. She later advanced into a leadership position in Market Research at Sara Lee/Hanesbrands Inc., where she managed a team. Throughout her career, Vickie influenced and mentored many others, while also valuing the guidance she received from Howard Upchurch, Christy Respess, Romaine Sergeant, and many more (who know who they are).

After 47 years Vickie decided it was time to retire from Hanes Brands Inc. She then created her own contracting business where she worked for Liberty Hardware assisting her dear friend Jo-Ellen Fogle for the next 8 years in market research.

Vickie loved the beach, her husband, her animals, and her mom’s famous dump cakes. Vickie and Mike owned numerous properties on the Myrtle Beach beachfront, ending up at Maisons-sur-Mer.

Vickie and Mike had 16 dogs and 5 cats over their 47 years of marriage…mostly 2 at a time and as many as 4-5 at a time. Their precious goldendoodle, Ginger, will miss them both but she will be well taken care of, they made sure of that.

Surviving to honor her memory is her mother, Helen Landreth; her sister, Brenda Nobles; stepsister, Gail Bennett; her son, Michael Shane Byrd; daughter, Paige Daniel (William); her niece, Lori Neal; great-nephew, Riley Neal; along with 4 grandchildren, Madeleine Byrd Campe, Ainsley Byrd, Hollis Daniel, and Finn Daniel. Also, honoring Vickie is her loyal and dear friends, JoEllen and Bill Fogle, Meredith Metcalf, John Cosgrove and many more…

At her request, there will not be any formal services. She will be laid to rest next to her loving husband Mike at Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in her name to the Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
