Mrs. Viola Mason Lee, 100, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026, at her home.
Viola was born on August 30, 1925, to the late George Washington Mason and Bertha Mae Logan in Mecklenburg County, NC.
Viola was a strong, proud, and spirited woman—a true force to be reckoned with. Known for her persistent nature and vibrant personality, she lived life on her own terms with strength, independence, and grace. She dedicated many years of her life to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant before retiring in 2010. She had a deep love for helping people and found joy in serving others throughout her life.
She was a faithful and devoted member of Union Baptist Church for over 30 years, and actively served as a church missionary.
She enjoyed dressing beautifully, with a well-known collection of church suits and matching hats that reflected her unique style and pride in her appearance. She also cherished her collection of angel figurines, which brought her comfort and joy over the years.
In addition to her parents, Viola was preceded in death by her siblings, Gertrude Mason, George Washington Mason Jr., Nebraska Mason, Illinois Davis, John B. (J.B.) Mason, and Sarah Ruffin; and by her nieces and nephews, G.W., Estelle, “Tink,” “Dank,” Edith, and Viola Mae.
Those left to cherish her memory include her stepdaughter, Darlene Lee-Carter; grandchildren, Stephanie Lee and Eric Gaskin; niece, Sheila Harris; and a host of great and great-great grandchildren, along with many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00PM on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at Union Baptist Church with Bishop Sir Walter L. Mack, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends a half hour prior to the service.
Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is assisting the family of Mrs. Viola Mason Lee.
