Mrs. Violet June Stewart Southern, 86, Passed away March 25, 2018 at Salemtowne Retirement Community. She was born August 15, 1931 in Forsyth County to the late Percy Devon Stewart and Ellen Dora Farmer Stewart. Mrs. Southern was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John Plummer Southern in 2014 and her sister and brother-in-law, Willie Mae and Ned Roger Powers. She is survived by her daughter, Toyce Ellen Southern and her loving Dachshund, Zero. Mrs. Southern was a graduate in the first class of the new Glenn High School in 1951. She retired from Sara Lee (formerly Hanes Hosiery) in 1992 with 41 years of service. She was a devoted gardener and enjoyed her days in the yard planting and nurturing nature's bounty. She had a tremendous love for birds and relished in feeding and observing them for the not so common species that might appear. She always looked forward to her trip to Naples and Key West, Florida each year, but her passion was the adventures to Goodwill for those hidden treasures that were waiting to be found. At her request, there will not be any funeral services and there will be a private inurnment at Saints Delight Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of food or flowers the family request memorials be made to Saints Delight Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Terry Motsinger, 270 Motsinger Drive, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
