Mrs. Virginia James Barber, 96, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, November 21, 2025. She was born on November 2, 1929, in Forsyth County to the late Mr. John B. James, Sr. and Mrs. Lois Roberson James.
Virginia was a lifelong member of New Philadelphia Moravian Church, where her faith was a steady and meaningful part of her life. She worked for many years as a ticket seller at Bowman Gray and spent a large portion of her career in retail. She was also proud to be a Noble in the Winston-Salem Shrine Club. Above all, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who dearly loved her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in passing by her husband, Paul H. Barber, and a grandson.
Left to carry forward her memory are her daughter, Teresa Brown (Jimmy); two grandsons, Glen Anderson (Melanie) and Blair Huffman (Heather); one granddaughter, Allison Brown (Jamie); six great-grandchildren; two brothers; one sister; and a very special friend, Pam Garrison (Gray).
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025, at 2:00pm at New Philadelphia Moravian Church with The Rt. Rev, Sam Gray officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to New Philadelphia Moravian Church, 4440 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104, or the Winston-Salem Shrine Club, 4909 Hampton Road, Clemmons, NC 27012.
