Virginia McMillian Hayes

Virginia Elizabeth McMillian Hayes, 105, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

She was born in Forsyth County on January 18, 1920, to the late Oscar and Alamay Gwynn McMillian. She spent most of her employment life with Hanes of Winston-Salem until her retirement.

She was a long-term member of Vernon Forest Baptist Church and had many friends from the church, especially her ladies Sunday School class. They took many day and longer trips together which she enjoyed.

In addition, one of her favorite activities was Caribbean cruises with her sisters and visits from her family from Pasadena.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband, John Roy Hayes. Virginia and John were married in Martinsville Virginia on December 2, 1937, and spent the rest of their lives together happily married until his death in 2003. She is the only survivor of her beloved brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her only child, son, Johnnie R. Hayes (Lynn); and her much loved grandson, Jason D. Hayes and his wife Miranda of Pasadena, California. Bringing her great joy were her great grandchildren, Ethan, Luke and Scarlett Hayes of Pasadena.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at the Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel with Pastor James Brown from Vernon Forest Baptist Church officiating. A private burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens on Monday, April 7, 2025.
