W. Bailey

Mr. W. Bruce Bailey, age 90, of Advance, passed away at his home on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. He was born in Winston Salem, NC on April 29, 1927 to the late Artelia H. Bailey and M. Cleveland Bailey. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Mr. Bailey was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 1945 and played for the Durham Bulls for one season before being drafted into the Army. He is a graduate of High Point College and worked for Burlington Industries for 33 years where he was VP of Traffic, Transportation Div. He resided in Burlington, NC for 38 years and was a member of the Alamance County Chamber of Commerce. Bruce returned to Winston-Salem for his retirement years and he was a member of Christ Moravian Church. He was a lover of sports of all kinds and an avid golfer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Jones Bailey; grandson, Jeremy Bailey; two brothers, Edward and Robert (Bobby) Bailey and dear cousin Doris Smith. He is survived by his sons, Tim Bailey (Georgia) of Mobile, Al; Don Bailey of Charleston, SC; Alan Bailey (Samra) of Gibsonville, NC and daughter Rita B. Hales (Philip) of Clemmons, NC. Also, grandchildren; Brent, Chad, Angela, Katrina, Lacey, Cala and Christian and 6 great-grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 25, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hayworth-Miller funeral home at 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 26 at Christ Moravian Church, 919 West Academy Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101 and graveside service at God's Acre in Old Salem with Rev. Dr. David Marcus, Jr., and Rev. Dr. Neil Routh officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Christ Moravian Church, 919 West Academy Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27101.
