Walter “Walt” Stanley Grabon, 84, of Winston-Salem, passed away peacefully with quiet dignity surrounded by his loved ones late evening Friday, June 20, 2025.
A celebration of life will be held 4:00 PM Friday, June 27, 2025, in the Hayworth-Miller Robert F. Miller Center with Pastor Kelly Carpenter officiating. Walt was always in jeans, so please attend in casual attire.
Walt was born March 21, 1941, in Detroit, Michigan, to Wadislaus “Walter” Grabowski and Ethyl Marie Ogden Grabowski. In 2000, he retired as District Director of the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in the Memphis Office where he was responsible for Civil Rights in Employment enforcement for Tennessee and Arkansas. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly and always took care of those around him. Walt was a man of many talents being a race car driver, sailor, artist, handyman, and gardener. He was always full of jokes and could easily bring a smile to anyone’s face. In addition to his parents, Walt was preceded in death by his brother, Barry Gordon.
Left to cherish his memory, is his wife of 33 years, Linda Louise Kronz Grabon; three daughters, Ann Grabon, Jennifer Boyd (Andy), and Amy Tippett (Eric); one son, Sam Barone (Eileen); four grandchildren, Emmett Boyd, Rachel Tippett, Claire Tippett, and Collin Tippett; one niece, Susie McManus; and one nephew, Barry Grabon (Liz).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, St. Jude Children’s Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or to Ardmore United Methodist Church.
