Wanda “Kaye” Shutt, 81, passed away peacefully at her home in Winston-Salem, NC, on September 25, 2025.
Kaye was born on July 15, 1944, in Forsyth County, NC, to Lee and Myrte Shutt. Kaye dedicated her life to her family and to educating others. One of her proudest professional accomplishments was becoming the first female principal in Forsyth County to serve at all three levels of education: elementary, middle, and high school. She touched countless lives with her leadership, compassion, and commitment to learning.
Faith was the foundation of Kaye’s life. She loved the Lord deeply and lived each day with a heart devoted to God, serving others with grace and kindness.
Kaye was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Patricia Gail Holmes. She is survived by her loving sister, Janice Bernard Jordan (Buddy); nieces, Alysha Galloway (Andrew) and Dori Dixon (Joshua); nephew, Edward Williams (Crystal); five beloved great-nieces and great-nephews, USMC Sgt. Ethan Williams, Elijah Williams, Jordan Williams, Grey Dixon, and Kelsey Galloway. She also held dear friendships with Suzanne Smith, Peyton Smith, Jamie Butner, Terry Samuels, and Jane Hauser.
Kaye will be remembered with love and cherished always by her family, friends, former colleagues, and students.
A private family graveside service will be held to honor Kaye’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital, Office of Philanthropy and Alumni Relations, P.O. Box 571021, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021.
