Mr. Wayne Grey Bowles, 94, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. He was born in Stokes County on January 18, 1928, the son of the late Dorsey Marvin Bowles and Flora Mae Baker Bowles. Wayne was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and was retired from Western Electric/ AT&T with 36 years of service. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy during WWII. Wayne was instrumental in organizing Little League Baseball in Rural Hall, was a former member of the Rural Hall Civic Club and a two-time commander of the Rural Hall VFW Post. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife in 2020, Ruby Campbell Bowles; a sister, Nina Mahathey; and two brothers, Marvin Gail Bowles and an infant brother. He is survived by two sons, Michael A. Bowles and Duane G. Bowles; four grandchildren, Wendy Marshall (Nathan), Dawn Moorefield, Brian Bowles and Christy Hartgrove (Mark); ten great-grandchildren, Kaiti, Tristen, Mary, Bianca, Trinity, Abel, Savannah, Dalton, Braden and Falcon; and two great-great-grandchildren, Clover Jade and Alayna River. A graveside service with military rites will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery in King with Dr. Brad Stamey and Rev. Brian Alverson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:30 prior to the graveside service at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
