Wayne Overaker

WALKERTOWN – Wayne Thomas Overaker, 80, passed away Wednesday, August 7, 2019. Wayne was born on September 29, 1938 in Orange County to William and Gertrude Smith Overaker. Wayne was a faithful, loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He served in the US Army National Guard for 19 years. Wayne worked as a Director of Sales at JOST International and was a member of Kerwin Baptist Church in Kernersville. He loved to sing southern gospel music and play guitar. In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Overaker. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Barbara M. Overaker; a daughter, Joy Overaker Moorefield (David, Sr.); three granddaughters, Brittany Gerringer (Brian), Anna Wade (Jonathan), and Sarah Hester (Ben); two step grandchildren, Christy Moorefield and David Moorefield, Jr.; great grandchildren, Owen, Aubrey, Corben, Maverick, Chandler, Malynn, Cassidy, and Trevor; three sisters, Judy McGhee, Phyllis Ross (George), and Peggy Berryhill (Lee); one brother, Larry Overaker (Helen); and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 12, 2019 at Kerwin Baptist Church with Pastor Daniel Hawtree officiating. A private burial will follow. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 11, at Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel.
