Mr. Wayne Thomas Steele, 74, passed away Monday, December 11, 2017 at Trinity Elms. He was born to the late James "Jim" W. Steele and Margaret Jones Steele on January 26, 1943. Mr. Steele graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA and served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Lowery during the Vietnam War from 1962-1966. He was an Elder, Deacon, and Adult Sunday School Teacher in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and was a current member of Highland Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. Mr. Steele had a sweet, gentle spirit with a dry, wry sense of humor always laughing at corny jokes. He was an artist who enjoyed painting with oils and watercolor. He made beautiful stained glass windows and individual pieces. Mr. Steele enjoyed golf, biking, being at the beach with family and friends, watching vintage movies and stand-up comedy. He retired from Lowes Home Improvement in Advertising with more than 20 years of service. Mr. Steele also owned TopLine Printing for 10 years. More than anything he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving is his wife of 37 years, Rhenda Houck Steele; daughter, Caitlin Amanda Craven (husband, Jonathan) of Stokesdale; step-son, James H. Bolin, Jr. (wife, Catherine) of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Grace and Reed; brother, John Stephen "Steve" Steele (wife, Kay) of N. Wilkesboro; also surviving are two nephews, Christopher Steele (wife, Elaine) and Todd Steele (wife, Sarah). A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, December 16, 2017 at Highland Presbyterian Church with a reception with family and friends immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Highland Presbyterian Church, 2380 Cloverdale Ave. Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or to Trinity Elms Assisted Living Memory Care, 3750 Harper Rd. Clemmons, NC 27012.
