Wesley I Jones III (Wess), age 71 of Kernersville entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at his home.
Born April 19, 1954, in Asheboro, NC, Wess was the son of the late Wesley I Jones Jr and Lane Hodgin Jones. Wess was a graduate of East Forsyth and UNC-Charlotte, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering. After college, Wess worked for several engineering firms before opening his own business, Jones Engineering & Associates, in Greensboro. Prior to his declining health he attended Union Grove Baptist Church.
Wess was a quiet man with a dry sense of humor who enjoyed telling corny jokes just to get a chuckle. He had an analytical mind and loved taking things apart just to see how they worked, whether he could put them back together or not. He built remote control model airplanes and could fix anything with a motor. Wess was musically gifted and could play multiple instruments but especially enjoyed accompanying the choir and The Followers at Union Grove on his bass guitar. He loved camping and boating at Philpot Lake in Virginia, especially when tubing and skiing were involved. An avid reader, he enjoyed books on aviation, nature and outer space and the solar system. He especially loved cats, and his two cats were his constant companions during his illness.
In addition to his parents, Wess was preceded in death by his brother Barry Jones and his stepmother, Doris Jones.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 46 years, Marianne Ingram Jones of the home; daughter Andrea Jones of Charlotte; Austin Jones of Kernersville; sisters, Robin Woods (Joe) and Debbie Jones of Kernersville; numerous nieces and nephews and other extended family.
The family will receive friends from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel at 3950 Macy Grove Road, Kernersville, NC 27284. A graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Union Grove Baptist Church. Officiating the service is Chaplin Joseph Ingram.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations made to the American Lung Association NC at 401 Hawthorne Lane, Suite 110 #298, Charlotte, NC, United States, North Carolina in honor of Wess.
