Wilbur Glynn Sprinkle

Wilbur Glynn Sprinkle passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2016. Glynn was born in Winston-Salem, January 10, 1930, to William and Susie Sprinkle. He was a graduate of Gray High School and NC State University with a degree in Chemistry. He became a resident of Raleigh following graduation and was employed as a chemist by the state of North Carolina until his retirement in 1985. However, his great loves were competitive roller skating, which took him to Europe; and ballet, holding a number of principle titles in the State Ballet Company. Perhaps one of his most notable roles was as the Medicine Man in ‘The Lost Colony.' He had a passion for European travel which was the impetus for becoming a life time student of languages, taking classes in German, Italian and Spanish well after his retirement. Surviving are two sisters, Harriett Yokeley (Archie) of Wallburg and Viola Shaw of Winston-Salem and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Siblings predeceasing him were Camilla Moore (W-S), Mary Jones (W-S), Odell Sprinkle (Charlotte), Dexine Sprinkle (W-S), Marlor ‘Buck' Sprinkle (Charlotte) and Peggy Johnston (W-S). The family wishes to thank the Hospice of Greensboro and the staff of Brighton Gardens who took such loving care of him during the last several months; special appreciation to Alicia, Allison and Gina for their support. A memorial service will be held at Hayworth-Miller, 3315 Silas Creek Parkway, Winston-Salem at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 20, 2016. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to a charity of the donor's choice. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
