William T. Hix passed away peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and dear friend.
He was born on July 16,1933 in Moravian Falls, NC to Grover and Carrie Thomas Hix. Bill was proud to serve his country as a United States Marine during the Korean War. Upon his return, he attended UNC Chapel Hill.
On August 20, 1960, Bill married his wonderful, and much-loved wife, Martha Blackwelder, of Cherryville, NC. They spent 63 years working side by side, whether it be in the garden, adding an addition to their home, or building a piece of furniture.
Bill’s extensive work career took many forms. He retired after 30 years as the Manager of the Winston-Salem City Water Department. Bill preferred to stay busy leading him to then accept a position with Landmark Builders as a General Contractor. Once again, Bill tried retirement but decided it was just not for him and joined Ace Avent Concrete Construction. Bill contributed to the FedEx Hub, the Caterpillar Building, and the Dell Plant, along with many other impressive structures.
He enjoyed fishing, hard work, and gardening. Bill took pride in sharing his home-grown vegetables with friends and family. With his mechanical mind, there was not much that Bill could not repair, build, or fix. He was always eager and willing to lend a hand and share a pearl of wisdom. He will be remembered as a caring neighbor, mentor, and family man. His influence will carry on in the lives of all who knew him.
Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Gena Elias.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Blackwelder Hix; their daughter, Sam Siceloff; grandchildren, Alexandra R. Siceloff and William B. Siceloff; sister, Lana R. Smith; and many loved family members, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Homestead Hills and Brookridge for their time and care. A very special and heart felt thank you is extended to our care giver team from Best Caregivers Ever, LLC. for the unwavering love, support, and kindness extend to our family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, with Rev. Jon Gaska officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1416 Bolton Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
