William "Bill" Earl Taylor

William “Bill” Earl Taylor, age 83, passed away peacefully at his home in Walnut Cove, North Carolina, on October 26, 2025.

Born in Guilford County to Earl Currie Taylor and Margaret Freeland Taylor, Bill lived a full life defined by curiosity, conviction, and connection. A proud graduate of Fishburne Military School in Waynesboro, Virginia, he remained a dedicated alumnus and supporter throughout his life. His time there shaped his strong sense of discipline, patriotism, and moral integrity, traits that guided him always.

After graduating from Fishburne, Bill went on to have a long and successful career in construction management, where his leadership and attention to detail earned him deep respect among colleagues and friends alike.

Bill was also a Freemason and a proud member of MENSA, reflecting his lifelong pursuit of knowledge and fellowship.

Bill had a voice made for radio and a personality to match. A natural storyteller, he loved sharing his knowledge, wisdom, and humor. His wit and warmth made everyone feel welcome and valued, and those who knew him will remember his ability to turn ordinary moments into lasting memories.

For the last 3 decades, Bill made his home in Walnut Cove, where he cherished the peace of the countryside and the friendships he formed across Stokes County. He could often be found on his tractor mowing the fields, visiting with neighbors, or watching the sunset over the land he loved so much. He was happiest outdoors; snow skiing, camping, boating, and white-water rafting were among his favorite adventures.

Bill shared a special bond with his dog, Kurt, who was his constant companion and best friend. Losing Kurt was one of his deepest heartbreaks, and Bill honored that love through his ongoing support of the Friends of Stokes Animal Shelter, an organization close to his heart.

He is survived by his daughter, Shannon Hoffman (Kevin), and by countless friends who became family. Though he had no grandchildren of his own, he often said he was lucky to have found them nearby in the children of dear friends who brought him so much joy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Stokes Animal Shelter, 1111 Dodgetown Road, Walnut Cove, NC 27052, in honor of Bill’s lifelong love for animals.
