AdvanceWilliam Clifton ""Cliff"" Cranford, born November 12, 1946 in Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, August 30, 2013 at the age of 66. Cliff served in the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam Veteran. He retired as a Captain with the Winston-Salem Police Department, where he was awarded the Medal of Valor. He was extremely proud of his military and law enforcement careers. He was a graduate of Gray High School in Winston-Salem, attended Western Carolina University, and earned a bachelor's degree from Gardner-Webb University and a master's degree from North Carolina State University. He was a member of Immanuel New Eden Moravian Church in Winston-Salem. He was an active member of The Guilford Grays and the Single Action Shooting Society. Cliff was preceded in death by his parents, William B. Cranford and Collice B. Cranford; his brother-in-law and mentor, Robert L. Adams; sister-in-law, Margo Butts and brother-in-law, David Greene. Surviving is his devoted and beloved wife, Alison B. Cranford; siblings, Barbara C. Adams, Janie C. Frye, Eddie B. Cranford and wife Theresa, Michael D. Cranford, Susan C. Swansburg and husband Phil, and Cindy C. Skaggs and husband Terry; brother-in-law, John Butts and wife Louise as well as numerous much-loved nieces and nephews. Cliff enjoyed watching baseball, shooting antique firearms, playing his guitars, going to the mountains, and driving new vehicles; but most of all, he enjoyed being anywhere with his wife. A graveside service will be held 11:00 AM Monday, September 2, 2013 at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2730 Peters Creek Parkway Winston-Salem, NC 27127 Winston-Salem, NC with Rev. Cheryl G. Cottingham officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel 3315 Silas Creek Parkway Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
