William Gibson

Kernersville - William "Bill" Gibson, entered into the more immediate presence of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 17, 2017 at his home. Bill was born on September 29, 1928 in Guilford County to Paul Bryan and Cora Gurley Gibson. Bill was a Veteran of the US Army Air Corps / Air Force from 1946 - 1949. He was a mail carrier with the US Postal Service in High Point, retiring after 30 years of service. After retirement, Bill drove a school bus for many years. He was active in the Moravian Church and served for many years as a Moravian Mission Volunteer to Bethel, AK, doing repairs and assisting in the building of a new Sanctuary. He made many friends among the native Yupik people. Bill was a fiercely independent man who could fix or make anything. He loved his Lord, his family, nature, and animals. Bill enjoyed farming and sharing the produce. He made necklaces for special people and was known as the "Bubble Gum Man" to all the children.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two sisters, and a brother.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Ruby Gibson; three daughters, Catherine Draper (Tony), Alice Linville (Ron), and Ann Parlier (Keith); seven grandchildren, David Draper (Sarah), Mark Draper (Courtney), Diane Jenkins (Christian), Brent Bunn (Heather), Carrie Rinehart (Jeff), Ted Linville (Megan), Aaron Linville (Amy); eleven great grandchildren, and expecting the twelfth great grandchild next month.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Union Cross Moravian Church with Rev. Russ Williams and Rev. Aaron Linville officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made Union Cross Moravian Church, 4295 High Point Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107 or Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262. Hayworth Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
