William Robert Humble, Sr.

Mr. William Robert Humble, Sr. went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ early Saturday morning December 7, 2013 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Graham County, NC on July 18, 1926 to the late William Humble, Sr. and Ruth Hester Humble. Bob was a pilot with the NC Wing of the Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force, where he flew search and rescue missions. He served in the United States Army Air Corp during World War II and was proud to be a part of the Flight of Honor. He held the rank of First Lieutenant and advent of his local squadron. Bob was an active member at Grace Baptist Church and Western flying club and did voluntary work at the Silas Creek Manor nursing home and the Winston-Salem rescue mission. He also was an active member and past chairman of the Gideon's Bible distribution. He and his wife Peggy loved to travel each year to Hawaii and Oak Island, NC. While living in Florida, Bob was president of their homeowner association and director of Orange County homeowners association. He also served as the member and chairman of the Orange County Code of Enforcement. He worked for 39 years for the Western Electric Company and AT&T. Most of his career was in government systems division, where he was associated with the US Army's anti-missile systems and ballistic missile defense-systems. In addition to his parents Bob was preceded in death by his Brother Willard Candler ""Bill"" Humble, who was killed in action during World War II. Bob is survived by his beloved wife Peggy and daughters Debbie Lockery (Morris) of Greensboro, Donna Burden (Allen) of Timberlake, NC, Lori Baldes (Matthew) of Fuquay-Varina, NC, son Robert, Jr. (Peter) of Bridgewater, Mass, Bobbi Pearce (Kyle) of Lewisville, NC. He is also survived by grandchildren Seth Burden of Raleigh, NC, Kerry Burden (Sean) of Morrisville, NC, Abby Baldes of Fuquay-Varina, NC and Erin Pearce of Lewisville, NC. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM Monday December 9, at Grace Baptist Church with Rev. Ed Sears officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Grace Baptist from 1-2 PM. Burial will follow the service at Parklawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made in honor of Bob to the Gideon's so they can continue to share the love and hope of Jesus Christ to the world.
