William Jackson Campbell, 77, passed away on October 7, 2026, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. William was born on August 9, 1949, to the late William Kenneth Campbell and Ella Marie Hodges Campbell in Galax, VA. He was baptized at Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Galax.

A proud yet humble Army veteran, he served during the Vietnam War. Following honorary discharge from the army in 1972, William attended Appalachian State University, where he graduated earning his bachelor’s degree in science and technology Summa Cum Laude. He worked at R.J. Reynolds as a Software Data Controller and Corporate Software Designer from 1972 until 1992.

In 1993, he opened his own independent insurance agency, Campbell Insurance Agency, in Winston-Salem. A devoted family-man, William worked tirelessly yet somehow made the time to be present for his loved ones. He will be remembered for his kind and compassionate nature.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife, Deborah Poteat Campbell; stepdaughter, Carmella Myers Hege; and nephew, Robin Gary Horton.

Surviving are his son, Roman Shay Campbell with wife Tracy Hoots Campbell; his sister, Jeannie Campbell Horton with son John Horton & grandson Cassidy Horton & their children; his brother, Joe David Farmer; his sister, Janet Farmer Saunders with sons Jason & Ritchie Johnson; son-in-law, Jeff Hege; his first wife, Carol Dean Burnette with her daughter Katie Ann Brown with children Talon & Dovie; special friends, Don & Linda Lundy, E.G. Parks, Vickie & Bucky Williams; extended family and many dear friends.

A private service will be held for Mr. Campbell. An Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Park in Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers memorials contributions may be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.
