Mr. William Barker Johnson, 93, passed away at his home on June 15, 2017. He was born on September 17, 1923 to Mary Lou Barker Johnson and Walter Johnson in Winston-Salem. William was a member of the greatest generation, serving during WWII and retiring from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer. William was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn C. Johnson; as well as a son, James A. Johnson, and a daughter, Sandra Berniken. Surviving are his loving wife of 19 years, Mary H. Johnson; children, Brenda Berth (Carl), Mary Jo Wollack, and Bill Johnson (Kim); son-in-law, Jim Berniken; 20 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; step children, Dr. Tina Hoots, Darla Hoots, Dean Hoots (Dana), and Wade Hoots; as well as special friends, Mary Sharp and Mike Whitley; and his canine companion, Myrtle. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel from 6-8 PM, Monday, June 19, 2017. A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
