LANIER

Mr. William (Bill) Richard Lanier, 80, of Pfafftown, NC died September 25, 2014 at home. He was born April 27, 1934 in Edgecombe County, North Carolina to the late Roy and Ethel Johnson Lanier of Winston-Salem, NC.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie (Davis) Lanier and children: Gina VonderBorn (Al), James D. Lanier (Stacey), John Q. Lanier (Jacquie) and Shana Jarrett; seven grandchildren: Jacey, Josiah, Micah, Colby, Jana, Jordan and Katelyn; and three great-grandchildren. Also surviving are six siblings: Jeannette Lanier, Bolder (Rocky) Lanier (Nancy), Theresa Sykes (Gene), Faye Brendle (Don), Kaye Eisenbraun, and Wayne Lanier; also, a special brother-in-law, Joseph W. Davis (Wanda) and sister-in-law, Marilyn Davis Trapani.
Bill was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and after completing his service he attended N.C. State for a year and a half before entering Guilford College where he received his BS in Science. His professional career began with Melpar, Inc., Falls Church, VA, where he served as a Design Engineer on the final phase of a Solar Thermoelectric Flat Plate Generator for NASA. He completed his career with Artech Corp., Chantilly, VA and participated in providing court expert testimony relating to home gas explosions and other local disasters.
Bill loved his church and community and served as President of the Rust and Dust, President of the Vienna Civic Club, and held numerous positions at his beloved church, Brookstown United Methodist. Bill was primarily a ""family man"", who always put the needs of others before his own. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Brookstown United Methodist Church, 6274 Yadkinville Road, Pfafftown, NC 27040 on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. with burial immediately following in the church cemetery. The Rev. James T. ""Chip"" Webb will be officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Brookstown United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brookstown UMC. Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel is serving the Lanier family.
