William Lewis McGuire

William Lewis (Bill) McGuire, 88, went peacefully home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the North Carolina State Veterans Home in Kernersville, NC, where he resided surrounded by love and care since 2024. He was born April 26, 1937, in Avery County, NC, to Fredrick McGuire and Gladys Storie McGuire.

Bill was an Army veteran near the end of the Korean War and retired from working after over 30 years as a journeyman welder. He had a strong Christian faith and served in many ministries during his life. Bill enjoyed talking with people and never met a stranger. He enjoyed bowling, cornhole, playing rummy and listening to bluegrass music. He loved his friends, caregivers, and family - especially his wife of 56 years, Frances Reynolds McGuire. As Bill and Frances bravely faced the challenges of dementia and Alzheimer’s in his final years, this bond grew even deeper.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Jeanette McGuire Church and brothers, Robert McGuire and Joe McGuire.

Surviving Bill are his children, Timothy Lewis McGuire (Tonya) and Sarah McGuire Lazo (Fernando); grandchildren, Tucker Lewis McGuire (Kaylee), Tessa Camille McGuire, and Ashley D. Lazo Holder (Scott); brother, Charles McGuire; and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2pm Saturday, August 2nd, 2025, at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. The family will receive friends from 1 to 1:45pm prior to the service.
