William Belmont Mitchell

""Holy Spirit breathe on me, until my heart is clean. Let sunshine fill its innermost part, without a cloud between."" Mr. William Belmont Mitchell was born in Rural Hall, North Carolina on January 27, 1924 to the late Robah Mitchell and Lillie Glenn Mitchell. Belmont attended the Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Carver High School. Following graduation, he was drafted into the Armed Services where he served in the 82nd Airborne Division for four years. He was an employee of Western Electronic Corporation for over thirty years. Belmont was a faithful member of Stewarts Chapel AME Zion Church. His love of flowers kept him busy planting picture perfect flower beds and ten foot tall banana trees. However, with all of the time that he spent in his yard, he still had time to run errands for neighbors and there was even room enough for ""a man's best friend,"" his dog Chrystal. Following a period of illness, William Belmont Mitchell passed away at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Monday, June 26, 2017. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife Margaret Sheff Mitchell; four brothers: Vicue Mitchell (Blanche), Larston Mitchell (Rena), Worth Mitchell (Nelline), and Eldridge Mitchell (Constance); twin sister, Thelma Mitchell; and two other sisters, Bernita Joyce (Earlie) and Lucille Washington (Lester). The circle of survivors who loved him dearly and will remember him fondly includes two step sons, Samuel Sheff (Dixie) and Lonnie Sheff; one sister, Anne M. Smith (Daniel); and a number of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many friends and his adopted grandson Jesse Hairston. A Funeral Service will be conducted 12 PM Saturday, July 1 at St. James United Methodist Church with the committal following at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall, NC. The family will receive friends from 11:30 to 12 PM prior to the service.
