William Harvey Pardue, 89, of Rural Hall died peacefully on Aug. 19, 2017. He was born in Stanleyville on Dec. 12, 1927 to Willie Leo and Nettie Miles Pardue. On Sept. 4, 1948, Harvey married the love of his life, Juanita Hauser Pardue. They would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary this year. Harvey served for 32 years in the Forsyth County Tax Department in ascending roles, retiring in 1989 as Tax Collector and Assessor. That same year, he was named the North Carolina Tax Collector of the Year. Harvey was a faithful member of Kingswood United Methodist Church in Rural Hall, and a longtime volunteer with the American Red Cross, through which he and Juanita served in disaster areas across the United States. They worked on church building teams through the Western North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church, contributing their resources and labor to build churches in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Haiti. Following their retirement, Harvey and Juanita enjoyed extensive travels across America, both by car and by their trusty Vanagon, including two cross-country trips to Alaska. As a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Harvey lived a life above reproach, and was a friend to everyone he met. He taught us that we are blessed beyond what we deserve, and had as a goal for all of us to leave the world better than what we found it. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Hobert, Ruth, Grace and Bob. He is survived by sisters Hazel and Sandra. Harvey leaves behind his beloved wife, Juanita Hauser Pardue, three children, Sherry Fulk of Tobaccoville and husband Brad; Doug Pardue of Willow Spring and wife Nancy; and Anita Pardue of Hampstead and fiancé Pete Paschall; six grandchildren, Heather Dotson, Angela Cain, Meredith Bailey, Jennifer Conover, Alyse Flick and Austin Flick; and nine great-grandchildren. He often said, "If you have a problem with someone or something, build a bridge, and get over it." Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Kingswood United Methodist Church in Rural Hall with Rev. Jeff Sypole officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. The family requests that memorials in honor of Harvey's life and work be made to, Kingswood United Methodist Church in Rural Hall or the American Red Cross.
