Kernersville- Mr. William Franklin Payne, Jr., 71, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at his residence. William was born on January 30, 1947 in Rockingham County to William Franklin Payne, Sr. and Hessie Long Payne. He was a medic in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and had a lot of pride in his country. William enjoyed hunting and going to car shows. He was a “Jack of all Trades” and was very handy.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by one sister, Frances Winfree and two brothers, Arnold and Roy Payne.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sarah N. Payne; one daughter, Christy P. Scott (Robert, Sr.); two sons, William F. Payne III (Deanna) and Jeffrey D. Payne (Leslie); seven grandchildren, Robert, Jr., Alivia, Mackenzie, Emilee, Aaron, Dylan, and Trey; and one brother, Larry Payne.
A funeral service for William will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to The Wounded Warrior Project at PO Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
