William Ray "Billy" Petrie, Sr.

Mr. William Ray “Billy” Petrie, Sr., 79, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2024, surrounded by his family at his home. He was born in Forsyth Co. on August 5, 1945, the son of the late Magnus William Petrie and Nellie Sappenfield Petrie. Billy was a loving husband and father. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Stanleyville and was an ordained minister. Billy loved the Lord and was ordained while serving in the United States Army while stationed at Fort Campbell, KY and served his country proudly during the Vietnam War. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. He loved animals, especially feeding birds and he loved working with his hands. Billy also loved collecting corvettes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Jonny Petrie, Gaynell Lynch, Dorothy Trantham and Sandy Cook. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bonnie Petrie; a son, Bill Petrie, Jr.; a sister, JoAnne Hill; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 16, 2024, at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown with Rev. Dr. Virgil G. Dwyer, Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forsyth County Humane Society or Tunnel to Towers.
