William Eugene Sharp

Mr. William Eugene Sharp, 86, of Winston-Salem passed away at his home Thursday, July 17, 2008. Mr. Sharp was born in Forsyth County on Jan. 4, 1922, the son of the late John Davis and Edith Spainhour Sharp. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Clara Segraves Sharp, in December 2003; two sisters, Ruth Ketner and Francis Johnston; and three brothers, Allen Sharp, Davis Sharp and Kenneth Sharp. Mr. Sharp was a member of Trinity Christian Church since 1932 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving for three years during World War II. He had retired from Western Electric with 27 years of service. After his retirement, he loved camping and traveling across the U.S. in his travel trailer. Surviving are a daughter, Janet Sharp Crump, and husband William Carter Crump Jr.; two grandchildren, Sally Anne Crump and Douglas Carter Crump; and two sisters, Gladys S. Walker and Lois S. Stone. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at Forsyth Memorial Park, with the Rev. Keith Marsden officiating. The Sharp family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight, July 18, at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall.
