Evangelist Zelvia Ketchersid Hooker, 96, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born in Kentucky on October 6, 1920 the daughter of the late Jesse James and Edith ""Nannie"" Ketchersid. Mrs. Hooker was retired from Western Electric and worked for Young's Cleaners and A Cleaner World following her retirement. She opened her home to others using her home for her ministry. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Thomas Hooker; a daughter, Virginia Harmon and a daughter-in-law, Debbie Hartgrove Hooker. She is survived by a daughter, Pamela Hooker Bennett (Tammy) of Winston-Salem; two sons, Paul Hooker (Imelda) of Covina, CA and David Hooker of Colfax; six grandchildren, Kristina Hooker Garcia, Erik Hooker, Gage Bennett, Marci McGuire (Scott), Michael Piner and Michael Harmon, Sr. (Wanda); seven great-grandchildren, Tamra Cornelius, Autumn McGuire, Joshua McGuire, Ashton Piner, Casey Piner, Kayla Harmon and Michael Harmon, Jr.; and foster children, Rose Frick and Dessie Sponseller. Mrs. Hooker is also survived by numerous other foster children. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with Rev. Ron Goodson officiating. A private graveside service will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hospice of the donor's choice. The family would like to thank all of the special ""Angels"" from Oak Forest Health and Rehabilitation and Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their loving care.
