Ann grew up in Neenah, Wisconsin the daughter of Sidney Frank and Ruth Harwood Shattuck. She attended Dobbs School in New York, Lawrence College (now University) in Appleton, Wisconsin and graduated from Scripps College in Claremont, California in 1939. She began nurses training at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, but left to marry Arthur Croxson, Jr. on April 10, 1942. After the war, they settled in Neenah to raise their family, daughters Elizabeth and Catherine and son James. Following Art’s death, she married Walter Courtenay, Sr. of Nashville, Tennessee in October 1974. They lived first on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, then settled in Bermuda Village near Winston-Salem, North CarolinaGolf was an enduring interest and activity throughout Ann’s life. She also enjoyed travel, the theatre and needle work of all kinds. Her family and friends will remember her easy smile, positive and upbeat attitude, gentle manner and giving spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two older brothers, Frank and James; Arthur Croxson, Jr.; and Walter Courtenay, Sr. Surviving family includes her sister, Mary; her children; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews in the Shattuck, Young, Croxson and Courtenay families.

We honor a great lady and acknowledge all she has given us of herself.
