Christopher Thomson

Christopher Dwight Thomson, 69, of Clemmons, North Carolina, passed away on January 21, 2023, after a long struggle with dementia. Chris was cared for by his beloved wife Debbi in their home until the very end.

Chris was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Chris was an avid surfer as a teen, and this began a joyous lifelong pursuit of outdoor adventures that included sailing, backpacking, fishing, rock climbing, bicycling, and canoeing. He traveled to New Zealand, Australia, and Hawaii for surfing adventures, and later to China for work.

He was a master woodworker and accomplished furniture maker, who loved animals and loved life; he always brought jokes and a smile to everyone he met. He gave time freely to help others: he spent years as a Scoutmaster, and he treasured working with the Men’s Service Team at River Oaks church.

Chris is preceded in death by his father, Reverend Richard D. Thomson; his mother, Susan Thomson; and his stepmother, MaryLou Thomson.

Chris is survived by his wife of 43 years, Debbi; their sons Ero (and Suzanne) of Portland, Oregon, Evan (and Kristin) of Clemmons, North Carolina; and five grandchildren, Kai, Elijah, Matthew, Khyrell, and Jeremiah. Chris also leaves behind siblings, Richard, Kemer, and Jean Andersen, of San Diego, California.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at 1:00 PM at River Oaks Community Church in Clemmons, NC, with Pastor Sonny Flowers officiating. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Chris’ team of caregivers, to the Wake Forest Community Home Care and Hospice Program, and to Dr. Mia Yang.
