Cpl. Kevin Shay

CLEMMONS, NC—Cpl. Kevin John Shay, 39, of Clemmons, passed away unexpectedly on November 9, 2018.  Kevin was born on July 19, 1979 in North Bellmore, New York.  As a result of the events of September 11, 2001, Kevin proudly joined and served as a Sergeant in the USMC.  While enlisted, he served two tours in Iraq.  After serving in the Marine Corps, he moved to North Carolina and started his career with the Winston-Salem Police Department.  He most recently was a Corporal with the Traffic Enforcement Unit.  Kevin was a member and served in the music department at Overflow Church in Winston-Salem, NC.  Anyone who knew Kevin would agree he added humor to every situation.  He took great pride in serving his country and his community.  Kevin was preceded in death by his father, William F. Shay.  He is survived by his wife, Michelle Carlton Shay; one son, Aydan John Shay; his mother, Mary “Angie” Shay of Denton, NC; two step-daughters, Rylee Sink and Lyndsey Holmes (Ricky), all of Clemmons, NC; one step-son, Mack Sink of Winston-Salem; one step-granddaughter, Abigail Holmes of Clemmons, NC; one step-grandson, Austin Holmes of Clemmons, NC; two sisters, Denise Vuono (Lou) of Pipersville, PA and Debra Mead Doylestown, PA; two brothers, Bill Shay (Kerri) of Dracut, MA and Andrew Shay (Ginger) of Brooklyn, MI; four nieces, Jen Mead of Doylestown, PA, Courtney Vuono of Fairfax, VT, Julie Mead of Doylestown, PA, and Elizabeth Vuono of Pipersville, PA; and three nephews, Andrew Mead (Audra) of Philadelphia, PA, Gregory Vuono of Pipersville, PA, and Ethan Shay of Brooklyn, MI.  Funeral services for Cpl. Shay will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 16, 2018 at Winston-Salem First, 3730 University Parkway, Winston-Salem, NC 27106 with Pastor Bryan Hullette officiating.  Interment will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery, 8115 Old Lexington Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Overflow Church, 8115 Old Lexington Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27107 to assist with their community playground project.  Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
