Edna Smith

Edna Lee Stout Smith, 96, passed away on Sunday, December 4th, 2022 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born August 22, 1926 in Forsyth County to Edgar Lee and Lucille Henderson Stout. She had a long and very happy marriage to Billy O. Smith.  Lee graduated from Gray High School, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and a Thespian. She went on to work at Western Union and retired from R.J. Reynolds Sales Services. Giving back to her community was her passion. She volunteered at Forsyth Hospital in the Emergency Room for over thirty years as well as Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Her shifts in the hospitals often started at 5:30 a.m., but she loved what she did. For her service, she was presented the 2016 Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service by Governor Cooper.  Lee was also a faithful member of Clemmons Moravian, participating in many activities, including Sunday School, Women’s Fellowship, and Young at Heart. Every year she served as a diener at the congregation’s lovefeasts. She kept herself healthy as an avid walker, logging more than 20,000 miles at Hanes Mall!  She loved her family and was known for hosting Christmas gatherings and spending summer weekends with her family and grandchildren at Lake Norman.  Lee was preceded in death by her parents, by the love of her life, Billy O. Smith, by her son, Keith Smith and his wife Linda Minnis Smith, by her brothers Boyd and Archie Stout, and by her sisters Ella Mae Clifton and Henrietta Green.  She is survived by her grandson Brandon Smith and wife Megan of New York, by her granddaughter Allison Kniejski and husband Brad of California, by her great grandchildren, James and Emily Smith, and by her sister, Anoree Stout.  The funeral service will be held at Clemmons Moravian Church on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Entombment will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Clemmons Moravian Church or Sunnyside Ministry of the Moravian Church. Online condolences may be made at www.hayworth-miller.com.
