Dr. Gregory Nolan Pinkerton, 70, of Winston-Salem, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. He was born in Fayette, WV on August 21, 1950, to the late Ceibert and Marggie Williams Pinkerton. He attended the University Maryland Medical School and began his medical career in West Virginia. Dr. Pinkerton was certified in internal medicine, palliative care, and pharmacology. He retired from Forsyth Medical Center with twenty-five years of dedicated service. He also established the in house NICS program at Forsyth Medical Center. Dr. Pinkerton was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and loved history.
In addition to his parents, Dr. Pinkerton is preceded in death by a stepson, Joseph Sheets; grandson, Teddy Hiatt; and sister, Gloria Zacconi. Surviving are his loving wife of fifteen years, Grace Sheets; a son, Adam Michael Pinkerton (Desirae Sanders); six stepchildren: Rev. Teddy Ray Hiatt, Thresa Tucker (David), Renee Ingle, Tina McCray (Paul), T. R. Hiatt, and Robbie Hiatt; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters: Sandra Foley, Shadonna Hale, and Cathy Gauthier; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held 12 Noon Thursday, January 14, 2021, at Calvary West, officiated by Rev. Teddy Hiatt. Interment will follow at Mt. Gur Cemetery in Kernersville. The family will receive friends 10:45 AM to 11:45 AM prior to the service at the church. Dr. Pinkerton will lie in state from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at Forsyth Medical Center, 3333 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
