Dr. James Dale Ball, 78, passed away at Salemtowne on January 8, 2021. Jim was born on March 4, 1942 to Frances May Barr Ball and Bryan Dale Ball in Yale, MI. Following graduation from East Lansing High School Jim graduated from Michigan State University. He went on to earn his M.D. from Northwestern School of Medicine in Chicago. Jim was a Major in the Air Force, serving at US Air Force Regional Hospital, Elgin Air Force Base, Valparaiso, FL. He then began a rewarding career at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. After working 38 years in Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, and PET; and receiving the “Quinn Award for Teaching Excellence” Jim was named Associate Professor and Emeritus at Wake Forest Baptist Health. Jim had a servant’s heart. He loved God and donated hundreds of Bibles over the years. Jim was a member of TDI Therapy Dog International, Winston-Salem Dog Training Club and Southeastern Guide Dog. He enjoyed working with dogs to provide comfort and independence to many in the community. He ran in several marathons including the Boston and Marine Corps Marathons. His extensive travels took him to numerous National Parks and other destinations both domestic and abroad. Jim will be remembered as a perfectionist, strong willed, charitable, kind-hearted, and thoughtful. In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a younger brother, Billy. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Carole J. Ball; children, Victoria Sibyl Hook and Christopher William Ball; grandson, Andrew; and a sister, Barbara Jean Ball-McClure (Chris). A memorial service will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers donations made to Forsyth Humane Society, 4881 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27104.
