John Chamblin, Iii

John Allan Chamblin III, of Oak Ridge, NC died on November 24, 2021 at the age of 76 after a struggle with ALS. He was born in Boone, NC. He served in the Air Force for four years. John earned an Associate Degree in Police Science and served with the Winston Salem Police Department. He then worked at Bermuda Village and retired from Davie Construction. He was a talented artist who painted a different piece to be sent out as a Christmas card each year. Many of these cards have been framed and saved by their recipients. But John’s greatest gift was his way with people. He truly never met a stranger. Throughout his life, John made many friends easily. He loved to talk to people and get to know them the first time he met them. John’s hearty hugs for literally everyone are legendary. He also loved golf and his playing partners.

John is survived by his wife Beth, his children Michele Knight, Cheryl Casstevens, Amy Wangler (Jesse), Jennifer Mouton (Jay), and Kevin Selders (Gretchen). Also surviving are his grandchildren Kylie Citty, Drew Norman, Rashad Banks, Lyra Mouton, Gannon Wangler, and Owen Selders. In addition, he is survived by his sister Kim DeMarco. Each one of these was sure they were his favorite….as he told them they were….and to not tell the others. Everyone he met was a friend, and he had many, and they feel his loss deeply as well.

Memorials may be given to fight ALS at https://www.als.org/donate or sent to ALS Association, North Carolina Chapter, 4 Blount Street, Suite 200, Raleigh, NC 27601. In his last months, John most enjoyed sitting on his front porch watching the birds. So in his honor, please feed the birds this winter and remember him fondly.
