Leila Haynes

Leila Mae Dunn Haynes, 94, passed away Tuesday, August 4, 2020 at Piney Grove Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Leila was born on June 5, 1926 to Callie Dunn in Rockingham County, NC. She was a faithful member of Freeman Street Baptist Church until her health declined. She retired from AT&T after many dedicated years of service. Leila was a kind and generous person who touched the lives of many. She had a smile that could light up a room and she was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed singing and spending time in the church, and you could always catch her with a cup of coffee and something sweet in hand. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Arvil Haynes and daughter, Martha Mayes and her husband, George Mayes. Surviving are her granddaughter, Angela Leonard and three grandsons, Mike, Terry, and Joe Mayes; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and three special nieces, Janet Mathis, Lynne Haynes, and Peggy Eskridge. A graveside service will be held at 12 PM, Friday, August 7, 2020 at Sunrise Cemetery in Jonesville, NC with Rev. Bob Whitaker officiating.  Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
