Mrs. Lelia Mae Caudle Smith passed away Friday morning at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Lelia was born in Davie County on April 20, 1930 to the late Robert Caudle and Reba Allen Caudle. She was an avid NASCAR fan. Lelia use to race cars at Bowman Gray Stadium, where she raced against legends, Richard Petty and Junior Johnson. She was preceded in death by husband William “Ralph” Smith; and sister Evelyn Langford. Lelia is survived by five daughters Lori Myers and husband Tommy, Lisa Smith (Charles), Vonda Anders, Sharon Norris (Jim), and Brenda Gandee; grandson Ben Beamon, Westley Myers, and Joshua Myers and Bill and James Gandee; granddaughters Heather Cashwell, Adrinne Cashwell, and Amy Carrigan; brother John Caudle and wife Rose; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. “Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God.
