Mrs. Mary Adelene Wooten Harrington, 93, of Bermuda Run, passed away April 3, 2021, at The Health Care Center of Bermuda Village. She was born September 8, 1927, daughter of Frank Lakey and Kate Cornelius Wooten, Sr.  She was preceded in death by her two parents; her brothers, Frank Wooten, Jr., and William Gray Wooten and a grandchild. She was a graduate of John W. Hanes High School, where she later taught. She was also a teacher in Newark, Ohio, and Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Mary graduated from the Richmond Professional Institute of the College of William and Mary; she also attended Women’s College of the University of North Carolina, Greensboro and Capital University in Bexley, Ohio.  Throughout her life, Mary was actively committed to the communities in which she lived, while being a dedicated mother to three.  She was an avid supporter of the fine and performing arts, and was active in many and various church activities and committees. She was a founding member of the Winston-Salem Association of Business and Professional Women.  She was active in the County Home Extension of Huntingdon, Pennsylvania; the Association of University Women; served on the Board of the Boys and Girls Club, and was Vice President of the League of Women Voters, all in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania.  Mary was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the Newark Gardening Club and the Board of the County Art Association in Newark, Ohio.  While living in Savannah, Georgia, Mary was a tutor-mentor at the Boys and Girls Club, and Gould Elementary School.  She was an Administrator on the Board of Skidaway Island United Methodist Church and a member of The Landings Club. Mary returned to the Winston-Salem area as a resident of Bermuda Village in 2004. She was very involved in activities at the Bermuda Village Chapel and served as Treasurer of the Vespers Committee. She is survived by her two sons, Steven Mark and Philip Leigh and his wife, Sandra Lucia, of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Elliotte Sue and her husband, Ronald Ian Lopez, of Glen Rock, New Jersey; one granddaughter, Marina Rose Lopez; by sisters, Dorothy Ellington, Judy Hemenway, Vicy Marshall (Larry) as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. She will be remembered fondly as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and a dear friend to many. Per Mary’s wishes, no memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Baltimore United Methodist Church, 2419 Baltimore Road East Bend, NC 27018, or the charity of your choice.
