Mrs. Mary Helen Bowers Whitaker, 84, passed away Thursday May 26, 2022, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born March 5, 1938, in Grayson County, VA., the daughter of Everett “Whitt” and Gladys Roberts Bowers. She had attended Kerwin Baptist Church and was retired from AMP, Inc. She enjoyed her flowers, pets, yard sales and bargain hunting. Though she was limited in her mobility, she loved her flowers and God’s creatures who lived in her yard. Devoted to her family who were her life, her love for them was never ending. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jay Robah Whitaker in 1979; a son, Ronny Whitaker and three siblings. Survivors include her three children, Tony Whitaker (Maggie) of Ocean Isle Beach, Jeffrey Whitaker of Winston-Salem and Lisa Whitaker (Brian Cross) of Kernersville; two sisters, Wilma Lamb of Kernersville and Faye Scott of Winston-Salem; a brother, Jerry Wayne Bowers (Marilyn) of Plainfield, IN; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren and one great grandchild who is on the way. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens with Chaplain Andrea Simmonds officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 1990 Fordham Drive Suite 100, Fayetteville, NC 28304 or to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice La., Winston-Salem, NC 27103
