Paul Sydney Berry, Jr.

Paul Sydney Berry, Jr., died peacefully at home. He was born to the late Margaret Mickey Berry and Paul Sydney Berry, Sr., on May 21st, 1939, in Forsyth County. He graduated from Mineral Springs High School in 1957 and immediately started his career with R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company where he met and fell in love with Irene. After earning his A1 machinist degree from Forsyth Technical Institute, he worked as a machinist at 91-2 Machine Shop. Following retirement after 36 years with Reynolds, Paul kept busy and was always working a project or two for family or friends. He was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and served as a volunteer firefighter with Forest Hill Volunteer Fire Department. He loved working with his hands, could fix about anything and loved doing it. His family considered him a master carpenter as he could look at a picture of a piece of furniture or woodwork and duplicate in his woodwork shop. While his sons were involved in Boy Scouts, he served as Assistant Scoutmaster and supported his sons in all their endeavors. He loved carpentry, fishing, camping and traveling. Paul was dedicated to his family and was always willing to lend a hand. In addition to his parents, one sister, Barbara Jean Berry, preceded him in death. He is survived by Irene Byrd Berry, the loving and devoted wife he adored for over 60 years; two sons, Timothy P. Berry (Kitty) of Owings, Md., and Mark C. Berry (Sharon) of East Bend, N.C.; three grandchildren, Luke Berry of Raleigh, N.C., Matthew and Anna Grace Berry of Owings, Md. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 10th, 2021, at Westlawn Gardens of Memory with Rev. Marilyn Weiler officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Trellis Supportive Care (www.TrellisSupport.org) or Pine Grove United Methodist Church (pinegroveumc.org).
