Theodore "Ted" Dentiste

Mr. Theodore “Ted” Apostole Dentiste, 78, of Winston-Salem, passed away at Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by his loving family on Friday, February 7, 2020.

He was born on April 18, 1941, in Forsyth County to the late Thomas Apostole and Frances Pauline Spencer Dentiste.

Growing up, Ted was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Winston-Salem, where he served as an Altar Boy.  He joined The US Air Force in 1960, where he served eight years in the Avionics Branch, while during this time was promoted to Staff Sergeant serving his final four years at the Yokota AFB in Japan and then Plattsburgh AFB in New York.  After the service he ran the family business, Polly’s Inn Restaurant and Tavern in Clemmons, for 21 years where he made many lifelong friends.  He moved on to doing many catering events, and working for several local restaurants and running a yard landscaping business until he retired.

Those who knew Ted know that he had a passion for cooking and loved creating different recipes to share with his family and friends.  He also participated several years in the annual Tanglewood Chili Cookoff, winning several competitions.  He loved gardening, fishing, music, especially the blues and beach music and enjoyed Shag Dancing. He was self-taught on the guitar and ukulele.  He was also known to be very comical and loved do impressions and make people laugh.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by one brother, William (Bill) Thomas Dentiste; two sisters, Annabelle and Doris Dentiste; and one grandson, Joshua Dentiste.

He is survived by one sister, Margo Kakouras; three children, Andrea Mundy and husband Jimmy of Mt, Airy, NC, Robert Dentiste and wife Sophie of Jacksonville, FL, and Brent Dentiste and wife Melissa of Clemmons, NC,; five grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation for family and friends on Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, 3315 Silas Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem, NC  27103.  A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorial donations to be directed to Kernersville VA Clinic, Attn: Tim Griffin, 1695 Kernersville Medical Parkway, Kernersville, NC 27284.
