Violet Simmons

Ms. Violet Marion Simmons, 92, passed away January 13, 2022, at Village Care of King. Violet was born in Surry County on January 27, 1929, the daughter of the late Sidney Sherman Marion and Nora Ella Hunt Marion and was the last of the 10 children in her family. She moved to Rural Hall in 1951 and became active in the former Rural Hall Baptist Church, where she served in many positions, singing in the choir and volunteering in the day care. Violet is survived by her two daughters, Debbie Sheek (Phil) and Lori Cannoy (Jeff); four grandchildren, Rita Cain (Brad), Phillip Sheek (Anna), Nora Cannoy and Carly Cannoy; three great-grandchildren, Madison Cain, Mason Cain and Molly Sheek; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Violet would leave these words with everyone, “Climb Every Mountain”. A graveside service will be conducted 2:00PM Wednesday January 19, 2022, at Rural Hall Memorial Park. There will be no formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Senior Services Meals on Wheels. For the graveside service, the family asks that everyone in attendance please wear a mask and social distance. The family would love to give and receive hugs but asks that due to our current health situation, that those be withheld at this time.
