Winifred Lewis

Oak Ridge – Mrs. Winifred “Winnie” Googe Lewis, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at her residence. She was born on May 22, 1936 in Appling County, GA to Oscar Benjamin and Enzie Carter Googe. Winnie was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Oak Ridge. Her faith was strong, and she loved her church. She also loved to travel to many different places. More than anything, Winifred loved her family and spending time with them. She was a loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, Winnie was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, William B. Lewis and 14 of her siblings. Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Richard “Rick” Lewis (wife, Mary) and Rob Lewis (wife, Lori); three grandchildren, Jennifer Fennel (Kevin), Chris Lewis (Emma), and Tiffany Whitaker (Trevor); one great granddaughter, Brady Lee Lewis; twin brother, Willard Googe (wife, Janet); and her sister, Annette Slayton.

The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the many caregivers who have helped Winnie over the years.

A graveside service for Winnie will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Oak Ridge Cemetery with Pastor David Miller officiating. Hayworth-Miller Kernersville Chapel is assisting the family.
