Heaven gained a sweet soul on Saturday, July 25, 2026. Jamie Berry, born April 30, 1970, with Down Syndrome was a light to all he met.
Eternally happy, with a little stubborn streak, he was well known by those he encountered through the years at the Kernersville Moose Lodge, the Kernersville VFW, The YMCA, the golf courses and other places he traveled, primarily with his grandfather Everette Berry. Jamie lived in Belews Creek, NC at an RHA group home from 1999 until this year. In the past few months his health has taken a downward turn, and he had to leave the group home. His favorite thing as a child was to swing on his swing set and "play" puzzles under the careful supervision of his daytime caregiver, Geneva Brooks. His favorite TV show was Happy Days which he watched repeatedly whenever he could. The music of the Chipmunks brought him much joy. He said "I like you" to many he met and "I love you" to many more. He will be sorely missed by the many that loved him.
Jamie was preceded in death by his grandparents, Everette Webster Berry, Jr. and Marbelle P. Berry; and his father, James L. Berry, Sr.
He is survived by his sister and guardian, Tabatha Berry (Joe Sheets); sister, Samantha Joy Cheek (Jeremy); stepmother, Kay Montgomery; nephew, Jacob Heath Cheek; and nieces, Kathryn Cheek, Madeline Sheets, and Olivia Sheets.
A private family graveside service will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
